Spa Trends – Hari’s Salon & Spa UK (Superfood Facial)

Posted in News, Spa | No Comments

London’s first high fashion export, Twiggy and the latest platinum catwalk pixie Agyness Deyn, are among the generational icons that exemplify UK style. London most definitely is the globe’s breeding ground for the avant guard in fashion, design and the arts. Culture in the UK thrives on being at the “edge” of cutting edge.

I just love the English, one aspect of their personality is very invested in being proper, somewhat dry and reserved, but on the other side they are fabulously flamboyant and alive in their very open desire to be adventurous in their self expression. The evolving look of the UK trend is clean and simple with a twist of extreme whimsey. Examples of the hottest looks in fashion were displayed at this years London Fashion Week, upcoming designers such as Caroline Charles, Ashish and Atoni & Alison made their fashion point of view heard.

Taking care of the body is anything but bland in the thriving beauty world of the London underground. One popular treatment for lustrous shining hair uses bull sperm to nourish and bring life to dull locks. The british appetite for beauty is much more bold than the country’s cabbage and potatoes culinary roots. I am sure that Peta would support such a use of an animal by-product, the method of extraction is most likely quite pleasant for the bull, but I digress.

The big news from the Cosmetic Kitchen is the exclusive launch of our Superfood Facial at Hari’s Salon and Spa. Hari’s is an institution in London, for over 30 years Hari’s has been servicing the follicles and complexions of London’s most beautiful people. From rocks stars to royalty, Hari’s has been setting trends in beauty for the UK. Located in heart of Brompton between the locality of Kensington and Chelsea, this area has been the focus of the famous London art scene since the days of Charles Dickens.

Body Deli has officially made its international debut at Hari’s Salon. The most nourishing “fresh” organic and raw facial in London.

The facial consists of seven steps:

1. Cleanse
2. Exfoliate
3. Feed
4. Tone
5. Hydrate
6. Protect
7. Nourish

Based on Body Deli’s signature superfood products such as the intensive regenerating Radiance Enzyme Peel, to the delicious fruity Blueberry Fusion Scrub, to the green enhanced Cucumber Juice Toner this facial delivers a rare combination of ingredients such as: spirulina, chlorella, kombucha, probiotics, and super greens such as barley, wheat and oat grasses. Together with the expert hands of Gita, Hari’s renowned facialist the treatment delivers that “London Glow”.

WeCare Spa – Barbara Conway (esthetician/beauty practitioner)

Posted in Spa | No Comments

The Body Deli has been the exclusive skin care line for WeCare Spa for over 5 years. WeCare is one of the very few spas in the country that specializes in detox and internal cleansing. Fasting is WeCare’s approach to restore the body back to balance or equilibrium. WeCare is a bohemian spa/resort located in Desert Hot Springs California. WeCare provides its guests with a distinctive and unique experience in the California Desert, just outside of world famous Palm Springs. Numerous celebrities frequent WeCare Spa, such as Alicia Silverstone, Minnie Driver, pop singer Avril Levine and supermodels of the likes of Linda Evangelista and Agyness Deyn.

I have been giving a weekly class at WeCare for years teaching about holistic skincare and showcasing Body Deli’s fresh, living food for the skin products to a very dedicated group of people that are serious about their health and about anything that goes on or in their bodies. Our new blog will be featuring the great therapists that do treatments in the fabulous spas that carry Body Deli products. So often the attention is paid to the spa, but it is really the therapist that makes your treatment a memorable experience. I would like to introduce our readers to Barbara Conway, lead esthetician at WeCare Spa. The following is from Barbara’s bio from WeCare.

Barbara’s extensive background in eastern healing modalities creates a unique and distinctive experience to her signature beauty treatments. Esthetics is much more than applying products to the skin, a truly effective facial will stimulate the subtle energy flow that restores circulation and activates acupressure points that revitalize and enliven the complexion. Barbara’s gift is her healing touch that is much more than just skin deep.

Inspired by Native American traditions she uses her understanding of plants and essential oils to create a sensory experience that effects the body on multiple energetic levels. Extensively trained in a multitude of techniques, her training in the Acupressure Face-lift uses the principles of pressure points to effect the meridians on the body to enhance vitality, increase muscle tone and release tension that results in a more youthful complexion.

Barbara is deeply committed to the purity and quality of the products that she uses in her treatments. The skin is the largest organ of the body and absorbs up to 70% of whatever is applied topically. This commitment has lead Barbara to source the finest organic products that will feed and nourish  the skin at the cellular level. Also Barbara custom blends oils, herbs and earth clays to enhance her treatments. Barbara believes that fresh products actually deliver a higher potency or “living” potential that our cells recognize, which results in renewal and rejuvenation at the cellular level. Barbara uses locally handcrafted raw, organic products made from The Body Deli, that are delivered fresh to WeCare weekly. Body Dei’s superfood enhanced products deliver the vital nutrients to feed and nourish Barbara’s clients, resulting in truly unique and effective treatments.

Harnessing multiple holistic methods Barbara draws on her spiritual and intuitive nature to elevate a “facial” into a transformative healing experience. Using sound vibrational techniques, gemstones and aromatherapy, Barbara harmonizes the flow of “chi” or subtle life energy that encourages the integration of body, mind, and spirit. Enjoy a deep sense of relaxation and inner peace as your skin is hydrated, nourished and revitalized.

Barbara Conway, has lived in the desert for over 20 years. Barbara is inspired and nurtured by the Native American culture and healing power of the deserts powerful landscape. For the last twenty years Barbara has committed her life to studying alternative and holistic healing techniques. Her special relationship with the plant world has allowed her to cultivate a deep and profound understanding of how the essences of plants. flowers and the Earth effect our well-being and health. Have worked in the Coachella Vally’s finest spas and resorts, Barbara has developed a devoted clientele that seeks out her transformational beauty treatments. Barbara has been the lead Esthetician at WeCare for four years and feels that the unique healing experience that WeCare offers is the perfect compliment for her own personal philosophy. In her free time, Barbara enjoys gardening, hiking, her Qigong practice, singing and playing music with friends and family.

If you have a chance to visit WeCare Spa, look up Barbara she has great hands and gives a truly great facial. Two thumbs up way up!

Palm Springs Riviera Resort Spa Terre

Grand Opening Spa Terre – Riviera Resort & Spa

-The opening of the dramatic Spa Terre ( not to be confused with the the Spa Terra designed by David Bury & Company Architects ) at the Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa which I have yet to visit because the public relations firm tells me they are completely booked – brings to Palm Springs a world class spa. With a competitive edge this 18-room spa , (the former Mediterranean Ballroom where the Glitterati once danced and pranced nearly a half century ago- and that means the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn and Elvis) this Asian influence spa dances once again with curving corridors, lighting that can only be described as magical and treatments reflecting Balinese and Thai spa culture.

-

The brochure says “ all of our spa services are designed to replace the with of the world with a feeling of utter relaxation” – how timely this is. And how innovative to cultivate a new spa generation with Youth Salon Services for those twelve years old and younger in your life such as a Tutti-Fruti Manicure and Pedicure and a Little Miss Muffet Conditioning Treatment. For the upper generation there are serious spa services in the Global Rituals such as Cleopatra’s Milk Ritual ( $120 minutes/$250) and the Volcanic Earth Clay Ritual ( 90 minutes/$200). And there are the Couples’ Rooms where you can select from a choice of massages from Sacred Stone to the Native Desert Sage.

All services are subject to a 20 per cent gratuity. The stunning 406-room Riviera Resort has just debuted after a $70 million renovation resplendent in the retro inspired “Hollywood Regency Style”.

Just a hint: chocolate piping on white bedspreads-the new Riviera resonates with the glam of the 1960’s spiced with the vibrational tones of orange from the lobby to the pillow accents. Add a swirl shaped swimming pool, expensive dining at their signature restaurant, Circa 59 all reflecting 21st century hip. Guestrooms and ambiance are not exactly family friendly and I have a feeling while not putting up a sign, this is more of an adult destination. I can’t envision a baby stroller or kids darting around the lavish outdoor furnishings by the chic pool something of an every day occurrence.
